气体探测器是一种检测气体浓度的仪器。该仪器适用于存在可燃或有毒气体的危险场所，能长期连续检测空气中被测气体爆炸下限以内的含量。可广泛应用于燃气，石油化工，冶金，钢铁，炼焦，电力等存在可燃或有毒气体的各个行业，是保证财产和人身安全的理想监测仪器。北美对气体探测器需求逐年递增，产品北美防爆认证需要随之上升。

北美（美国、加拿大和墨西哥）安全体系主要是指针对危险场所用电气设备的安装、制造、使用、检测认证以及监督所形成的有（国家）电气法规（主要是美国国家电气法规（NEC）和加拿大电气法规（CEC））、标准制修订组织、防爆电气设备制造厂、用户、第三方检测认证机构和政府监督机构构成六方安全体系。
